I thought we would never break up;
But destiny had other plans.
I still wonder what came between us,
To scuttle a beautiful camaraderie.
My heart did a somersault,
As I came to grips with the present.
There were tears at the memories we made.
A rueful smile at what could have been.
The days were suddenly a barren pot;
A parched earth beseeching an oasis.
The died conversations struggled,
To redeem and rise like a phoenix.
I thought it was all a bad dream,
Soon disappearing into the recesses of time.
Our friendship has only gone to slumber;
One day it will wake up and show us,
A beautiful morning of rainbowed rapport!
Until then, I wait with prayers on my lips.
It has been two months since I broke up with a very dear friend. She had been a source of encouragement and a lot of fun too. It has been hard, but I hope that I will wake up from this bad dream and take our friendship forward. I hope she also feels the same.

Yes, Corinne. It’s one of the hardest things to endure. Maybe the time apart will help us both reflect on what happened and overcome the differences. It was good joining #MondayMusings this week. Hope to do so in the coming weeks too! Thanks, Corinne.

Hi Sreedeep,
That’s a very evocative piece of poetry. I feel your pain, as I had a fall out with a dear friend last year and though I miss her lots and we continue to be gracious around each other, the cup remains chipped. I want to re-start on a clean slate, but seems she isn’t ready. Such is life I guess. I pray that your friend values your friendship as much as you value hers. May things turnaround for the both of you one day.
Till then, keep that chin up. Nobody is worth losing our sleep on. And please continue being your own best friend, thats what I learnt through the experience.

Thanks, Natasha. Yeah, what happens often during these fallouts is that things can take a long time to be back to it’s old self. Hope that things look up soon. Wishing the same for you and your friend.

I’m not sure if they will but then I’ve made peace with it either which way. Things happen for a reason I guess. Take care.

So sorry your friendship fell apart like this. Give it time and perhaps it will be restored. I wish you all the best as you recover from the hurts involved. A Golden Wedding

Breakups are hard and seem to happen far too often for my comfort in my life. I have now started to try and believe in the maix – People come into our life for a reason or a season!!
We grow and evolve as personalities, priorities change and it can all lead to people drifting or breaking up!!
Hope you find the strength to chin up and go out there to make some new friends or pick up a new hobby!!! (Tried n tested formulae) Cheers

Yeah. Of late, this thought has crossed my mind too. If people let their thoughts be known, instead of leaving the reason a mystery, that relationship may get a chance to survive. Or at least give us some closure. Not many do that, sadly.

Yes, nothing is permanent but knowing why a relation is ending can be a little relief amidst all the pain. Like you said, not many share why they are leaving or what aspect of our behaviour caused the fallout. That’s sad indeed.
